almost always stresses that we are the last in Europe and worldwide. Sometimes, however, we are also the first.
ITALY is first in Europe for quality food linked to the territory. A record that has consolidated in 2009 with a real sprint: on 50 new branded products (PDO, PGI, TSG) are as many as 19 Italians. The overall ranking is headed there with 194 products (21 per cent of the total), followed by France with 167 and Spain with 129. These are the figures contained in the "2009 Report on the Italian agricultural food production PDO, PGI, TSG" curated by the Centre Qualivita.
"The food quality speaks Italian," said Mauro Rosati, Director. "It is a fact that should not be read alone: \u200b\u200bspeak not of a niche but important segment of the driving and gastronomic culture of the country. Defending this type of production is to limit the environmental impact of agriculture, protect the diversity of the landscape, create the conditions for a revival of tourism. "
As noted by Paolo De Castro, chairman of the Foundation Qualivita, the very success of Made in Italy risks becoming own goal if individual companies are presented in random order to the challenge of globalization: "Abroad, they want to eat Italian, want mozzarella and parmesan, but if you export only 14 percent of our excellent food, the void is filled with goods on the shelves sounding italian: pirate imitations that use assonance and end up with an Italian name to bill four times more of the real products. We must organize ourselves to bring our products where they are needed. "
To boost exports and avoid scams imitation of Italian brands, the Centre proposes a policy that is oriented towards the strict protection of traditions from the point of view production rules, but at the same time is extremely innovative and open in terms of marketing and business innovation.
